The trip from Tallinn to Riga took us more then 5 hours because of heavy traffic over small roads. The weather was good and so were the views. Very small villages (not more than 4 tiny little houses) are hidden in the woods. There’s almost not other way than to recognize them by the post-boxes near the street. The boarder between Estonia and Latvia was an easy thing to do. Before we knew, we were on Latvian grounds.
Arriving at Riga, we could see the former Russian buildings, almost destroyed, but very present into the landscape. Old Russian signs and characters are still written on the walls of the buildings. Riga is a surprisingly modern city, with an old historic centre and plenty of art-deco/jugendstil houses.
This town near the almighty Daugava river is growing every day & the people are open, social and kind, more independent than we expected them to be.
