Driving from the Czech Republic to Poland is an experience: other money, other people, other language, other environment. In the Czech Republic the roads were in good condition and the environment was quiet and peaceful. In Poland it’s much busier than in the Czech Republic and it’s much more commerce; all French store chains have an establishment here: Makro, Carrefour, Auchan, E Leclerq, Castorama. On contrary the roads are bad. They’ll probably need to do a lot before the EK Football that will be held here in 2012! A positive thing about this more western country is that the bikers on the road have backlights, which makes them more visible for us. A relief.

Warsaw
The capital Warsaw is very surprising, broad boulevards, lots of green and a more renovated centre. Chapeau for the restoration work they did in this city! On January 17th 1945 the city was bombed for 85%. More than 700.000 people died that day. Nowadays, from an old church tower on the old courdyard, every day on 11:15h. you can here a tribute to this day: a trumpet player plays to the 3 quarters of the compass from where the attacks were launched. Simply beautiful!!

The forum
The forum in Warsaw was held in the former palace, ‘Palac Prymesowski’ in the ‘Sala Kolumnowa.’ A beautiful location: pillars, curls, gold, everything in old Baroque style! Before and during the pause of our Forum there was a jazz-combo to play live music. The atmosphere here was great and we can look back at a successful forum.

The Poznan Climate Conference
Approximately 190 national delegations, most headed by environment ministers, as well as thousands of visitors from international environmental, media, business and research organizations, have gathered this week in Poznan, Poland. They have come to participate in the UN’s 14th conference on the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 4th session of Kyoto Protocol nations being held from December 1 – 12. This conference is regarded as the world’s most important forum for political discussion on climate protection. It will focus on all kinds of problems related to the issue of global climate changes and particular attention will be paid to examples of successful technology, transfer and actions on adapting to climate change this year. One of the main goals of the conference is to prepare a framework for the next conference, at which an agreement on Kyoto Protocol commitments beyond 2012 needs to be reached. We are stopping our truck in front of the building where the conference is held and try to get some information to build bridges.
