Google is going to invest in research for sustainable energy sources. The company wants to have enough clean energy within a couple of years, to foresee a city with the size of San Francisco of (clean) electricity. - Amsterdam, November 27 2007

Google appointed a group of scientists and other experts that will execute investigation for sustainable energy sources such as solar energy and wind-energy. The company wants to supply clean energy that is also cheaper than the energy from coal-fired power stations.
The company expects to be able to supply around one gig watt of clean, cheap energy within several years . According to Google, this will be enough energy for a city the size of San Francisco.

CO2 neutral
Next year Google will invest millions of dollars in the investigation. Moreover, they want to invest in other projects that are occupied with sustainable energy.
Google is a major user of electricity, especially in the data centres where the servers of the company are situated. Those should waste less energy by efficient energy management. The headcounter of Google in the Californian Mountain View will be supplied with solar-cell panels that have a capacity of 1.6 meg watt, which makes it one of the biggest of the USA. This year Google aims to be CO2-neutral.

More sparing
Google launched, in cooperation with diverse other technology-companies, a campaign to make computer devices low-energy. Next to that, consumers are involved to lend a hand, for example by using functions for energy management and turn off their PC if it’s not used.
