Mercedes made an important step in the reduction of Co2 emission from her diesel engines. The new 2.2 litres turbo diesel discharges 138 grams of CO2 and will be the backbone of the Mercedes gamma for the years to come. The past months, most German car constructors panicked.
The new CO2 norm that Europe had premised, had a negative effect on especially the producers of small vehicles. Luckily for them, the norms were subsided. But that doesn’t mean that the producers stopped finding solutions. Especially Mercedes-Benz is much further in the development of environmentally friendly engines than estimated.
Mercedes will soon launch a new 2.2 litre diesel on the market. The vehicle only uses 5.2 litres in every 100 km and only discharges 138 grams, with a horse power of 204 and a 250 km p/h speed. The 2.2 turbo diesel is equipped with an injection system via a common rail of the 4th generation. This means that it’s already good, according to the exhaust gases norm of Euro 5 and Euro 6. The new diesel engine will make its debut in the C250 CDI and will be the backbone for the upcoming years for the diesel gamma of Mercedes in the C and E class.
This engine will probably also find it’s way to the S-class. Mercedes will launch 700.000 copies every year.
