The Mora River Aquarium

The small municipality in Alentejo region was converted in an environmental tourism and leisure market. This barn-shaped construction is called the Mora River Aquarium. The design and the construction incorporate the bio-diverse paradigm of the Iberian river and it is embedded in the ecological park. The water for the aquarium is taken from a well at the plot, pumped into a deposit and regenerated after use. They make sure that it’s dark inside in order to minimize UV impact on the living exhibits, which also allow visitors an uninterrupted detailed tour. Apart from this, the outdoor space gives a live display of the plants and animals collected and nurtured in the region.
