Carpathian EcoRegion Initiative (CERI) is a coalition of NGOs and research institutes working towards a common vision for conservation and sustainable development of the Carpathians. CERI was originally created as a project by the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme in 1999. The Carpathian Mountains in Central and Eastern Europe are a range of mountains that form an arc of roughly 1.500 km across Central and Eastern Europe, making them the largest mountain range in Europe.
They provide the habitat for the largest populations of brown bears, wolves, chamois and lynxes in Europe, as well as over one third of all European plant species. CERI aims to preserve the biodiversity in the Carpathians and, at the same time, support local economy and culture. Since 2004, CERI has become a separate legal entity based in Slovakia with national focal points in seven Carpathian countries, representing 45 member organisations. When we work together, we can live on our planet without destroying its beauty!
