CowParade
From January 16th till March 21th 2009, herds of fiberglass cows invade Madrid as part of CowParade, a colourful street art display. Each statue is decorated by a different designer, and then placed somewhere in the Salamanca, Retiro or Central districts of the capital.
The concept of CowParade - similar to Liverpool's Super Lamb Bananas - is to bring art into everyone's day-to-day life, rather than confining it to galleries. The first ever CowParade took place in Zürich ten years ago and the painted cows have been spotted in fifty cities ever since, including Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Las Vegas, Boston and Monaco.
Every CowParade is different, each one is designed to capture the essence of the host city. Past exhibitions have seen cows covered in computer keys, glittery pink paint or even transformed into Harry Potter.
