The ‘Golden Child Sculpture’ by Ernst Neizvestny shows a bronze baby busting out of a metallic egg in front of the port station. It is a representation of the Golden Age. Locals believe that touching the toddler will ensure a successful voyage.
Getting out of Moldova goes a little faster than going in; we were back on the road in three hours : Johnny, Magda, Jan and Valeria, in the cabin! Up to the border with Ukraine, 120 km further. In the middle of nowhere we found a little restaurant where we had lunch: good ‘zama ‘– Moldavian soup with chicken. Around 16.00h we arrived at the border of Ukraine. Luckily Valeria is here to help us, she speaks Russian, because the Ukrainiers don’t seem to have seen a Carnet ever!
